1. The person who holds you accountable.
When this person asks you how you're doing...they actually want to know.
They're curious about how your walk with the Lord is going. What struggles you're facing and how you can realistically improve. They call you to check on you and track your progress.
This person teaches you the power of prayer.
Therefore, confess your sins to one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
(James 5:16 ESV)
(James 5:16 ESV)
2. The person whose gifts are different than yours.
This person's strengths will complement your weaknesses. You will probably bump heads at times, but eventually you will notice it's your differences that make you fit together so perfectly.
Kind of like a puzzle.
This person teaches you how to serve.
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace
(1 Peter 4:10 ESV)
3. The person who has been through what you're going through.
This person understands you in a way others simply can't.
They will never agree with you in your sin, but they will keep you from feeling isolated.
This person teaches you how to love.
Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous;
(1 Peter 3:8 NKJV)
4. The person who is patient.
This person listens more than they speak. When you make mistakes you will expect them to get angry (and rightfully so!)...but they won't.
This person teaches you understanding.
He who is slow to wrath has great understanding, But he who is impulsive exalts folly [foolishness]
(Proverbs 14:29 NKJV)
5. The person who is humble.
This person doesn't want credit for anything. They recognize that everything good in them is a direct result of God's grace. He is the star of their show.
This person teaches you how to succeed.
For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.
(Luke 14:11 NKJV)
(Luke 14:11 NKJV)
6. The person who is encouraging.
This person will believe in you when you don't believe in yourself. The words they speak will stick with you long after they are spoken.
This person teaches you about grace.
Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
(Ephesians 4:29 NKJV)
(Ephesians 4:29 NKJV)
7. The person with high expectations for you.
This person will not let you settle. Good isn't great enough for them.
This person teaches you how to conquer.
But exhort one another daily, while it is called "Today," lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
(Hebrews 3:13)
(Hebrews 3:13)
8. The person who sees you the way God sees you.
This person refuses to think bad thoughts about you. They will reaffirm your identity in Christ.
This person will point you back to the Lord.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
(Colossians 3:16 NKJV)
(Colossians 3:16 NKJV)
9. The person who has discernment.
This person is observant and picks up on every little detail. They will always know when something is not right.
This person teaches you right from wrong.
And this I pray, that your may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ.
(Philippians 1:9-10)
10. The person who goes harder for Jesus than you do.
That person...is unashamed.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
(Romans 1:16)
(Romans 1:16)
